It not our intention here to describe all the hardware components of the IceCube mission. Instead we only focus on those hardware aspects directly related to our work with the flight control software.
The following components are of interest:
- Space Micro's Proton 400K single board computer. The processor is Freescale's P2020, a dual core Power architecture machine clocked at 1 GHz. We are using a radiation hardened variant since this mission will go well beyond low Earth orbit and outside the protection of Earth's magnetic field.
- We will run Wind River's VxWorks operating system (version 6.8) on the board above to provide the usual low level services. VxWorks on the Power architecture is supported by the AdaCore tools we intend to use for software development.
